Jesus, in Your name, we could change the world.

Hi hey hello,

Last night at youth group we learned about Psalm 63:1. This verse says ” O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” We focused on the last part of that verse, “in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” Sometimes we forget that the world we live in has no real water in it. There is nothing truly fulfilling here on earth. Not a single thing on earth could EVER fulfill us the way God does.

Sure, there are things that fulfill us and give us happiness for a short while, but they fade. Our youth pastor used the example of salt water. Sure, when you are parched salt water will feel good, moistening your dry, cracking lips, easing the pain felt in your throat from the arid climate. Very quickly salt water becomes deadly. That feeling of water flowing down your throat is actually dehydrating you further. The salt just sucks all the liquid out. Thus, by drinking the salt water, you are killing yourself faster.

We are substituting real, eternal fulfillment for worldly, temporary fulfillment. That next drink, that next relationship, that next gamble, that next party, these things are fun for a little while. If they were not fun, there would not be the temptation to do them. There is no denying that sin is fun. If it wasn’t, we wouldn’t have to be told not to do it.

The only place we can turn to get true, everlasting fulfillment in this dry, waterless world is to God. He is the Living Water. When we drink His water, we will never thirst again. His fulfillment is more than enough.

What do you guys think about this?
