Friday Favorites!

Hi hey hello,

I hope you all have had a great week! Mine has been good, it’s been long.. once again, but it’s been a good week. I am pretty pumped because I get to help out with the middle school retreat out at Crawfordville UMC, and I am super pumped.

Also, starting Monday, I am taking a break from all forms of social media, facebook, email, fashion blogs, twitter, and the blog. So, the blog is going to be a little quiet for about a week. I will be back the week after that, but I just want some time to disconnect and focus on my studies, life, friends, and myself. Anyway…

This Week I’m Loving:

This Scripture:

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.  — James 1: 19-21

Friday Favorites!

Hi hey hello,

I hope you have all had a fantastic week! Mine has been long, well, for most of the week, suddenly like, yesterday, it sped up, and now I am heading full speed into the weekend, which I am pumped for, because a. I get paid today. b. I make my first payment toward my Dominican trip!!! c. I am babysitting tonight. d. I am gonna get caught up on all my work. e. I GET TO SLEEP!

Of course, the sleeping problem is my own fault, it’s “Oh, I’ll just check Facebook for one second…” an hour later… “Just one more thing!” an hour later… “AHHH! I haven’t written a blog post or done my quiet time!” Yep, that has been how this week has gone. All while not doing my homework. So, this weekend will be spent getting caught up on sleep and on homework! Yay!

This Week I’m Loving:

This Verse:

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening-it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. So take a new grip with your tired hards and strengthen your weak knees. Hebrews 12:11-12

This Lesson:

Everyday is a new day. The worries of tomorrow are their own, don’t focus on them. Do what you can today, and if you mess up, there is always tomorrow to try again.

You reign in our hearts. You reign above all. Be lifted on high. There’s no end to Your love. There’s no end to Your love. You’re with us.

Hi hey hello,

Last night at church, we talked about vengeance, about how vengeance is not ours, it’s God’s. We went through Obadiah and looked at what God did.

Many times we look at God and then look at the world and see a bunch of bad people doing very well, and a bunch of relatively good people, having a really rough time. In our silly, fickle minds, that doesn’t make sense. We think God just overlooks what the bad people are doing, when in reality, God sees all of it. Edom thought they were hidden from God, high up in their cavernous home. How silly are we as people to think that God can’t see us hidden away in our little hiding places. God sees it all. Repercussions for actions will come, it may not be in OUR timing, but it will be in GOD’S perfect timing.

We also talked about how there are those things in our life that we just want to, in the words of my pastor, “put through a meat grinder” instead of give to God. There are always those people who will bother us no matter what. That thing could also be you, something you do. For me, that thing about myself that instead of giving to God, and letting God deal with it, I just want to deal with it in my own little way, is laziness.

Specifically these past few months, laziness has totally consumed me. I have had so much time with which to do so many worthwhile things, but I have squandered my time. I had all summer to really seek God and work on that while I had all this free time, and I didn’t use it at all. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy sitting around doing nothing, but I am really upset that I blew all that free time. Not even simply spiritual things, I could have been working on friendships, reading books, focusing on my health, finding hobbies, instead I sat around and watched television all the time.

Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much can be done if we are always doing.

The forest sounds with cedars breaking. The waters see You and start their writhing. From the depths a song is rising. Now it’s rising from the ground. Holy, Holy Holy, Holy Lord. The earth is Yours and singing.

Hi hey hello,

Last night in youth we talked about something rather interesting. It is one of those things that is like “No duh, Liz” But sometimes we need those things to come up again in our lives because they are good reminders. There was something my youth pastor said last night that was like this. He said, “Either God is God or you are.” That may seem rather obvious to all you smart, epic people, but to me it was a nice reminder. I need to let go. God IS God, so therefore, I’m not. I’m not in control.

I am sort of a control freak, those that know me can vouch for that. I like to be the leader, I like to be in control, even if it means I do everything. I do not like having to rely on other people to do things I could do myself. This is a rather hard thing to have and still let God have control. I know at a mental level that God is God, and therefore knows everything, and wants what’s best all the time, but I am not sure that has hit my heart yet. I read in the Bible that it is true, Jeremiah 29:11, ” For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for wholeness and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Luke 12: 27-28, “Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil now spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today , and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!”

God’s got it. I feel like I have to remind myself of that everyday. Maybe one day I will understand it, I would rather have to trust God though, it pushes me outside of my comfort zone.

What are your thoughts on that saying, “Either God is God or you are.,” ?
